Getting started
How to create your Account:dir account, set up your vault and add your first account.
What Account:dir does
Account:dir is a directory of every online account you own. Each account records which email address and which provider it uses, and can carry a project, tags, a cost, a billing cycle, a renewal date, notes and encrypted secrets such as passwords and API keys.
Every email, provider, project and tag has its own page that shows every account connected to it. Select any of them to see everything it touches.
Create your account
Open the home page and select "Start your seven day trial". Enter your email address and a password of at least 8 characters, confirm the password, and select "Sign up".
Your seven day trial starts immediately. No card is required.
Set up your vault
The first time you sign in, you are asked to set up your vault. The vault encrypts your secrets in your browser before they are saved, so only you can read them.
Choose a master passphrase of at least 8 characters and enter it twice. Use a passphrase that is different from your sign-in password. Select "Create vault".
Account:dir then shows your recovery key. It is shown only once. Select "Copy recovery key" or "Print" and store it somewhere safe, then tick "I have saved my recovery key somewhere safe." and select "Continue to dashboard".
Add your first account
From the dashboard, select "Create your first account", or open Accounts and select "New account". Choose or type an email address and a provider, fill in any other details you want, and select "Create account".
If you type an email address, provider or project that does not exist yet, Account:dir creates it for you when you save.
Sign in and unlock
Each time you sign in, or reload the page, your vault is locked. Enter your master passphrase to unlock it. Your passphrase never leaves your browser.
